Writing Notes

Notes provide a collaborative way to add valuable context to posts and help keep users better informed. The goal is to create a more knowledgeable community by allowing Redpanda users to add helpful notes to posts that might be misleading or unclear.

Redpanda is a space for sharing and learning, and with this feature, users can submit notes to clarify or correct posts that may cause confusion. A note can include background details, tips, or insights that others might find beneficial. For a note to appear on a post, it must be approved by other users who agree that it’s helpful. Notes will not be displayed if there’s no consensus on their usefulness, or if users agree that the note isn’t helpful.

Adding Notes to Posts

To help others stay informed, you can sign up to add notes on posts that you believe are misleading or ambiguous. After you submit your note, it will be reviewed and rated by other users. If your note receives a positive rating, it may be published and shown below the post.

Tips for Writing Notes

Your notes should be original and not copied directly from other sources. They should provide clarification or add useful context to the post. Here are some guidelines for writing effective notes:

• Always cite credible sources to back up your claims.
• Use clear, simple language that is easy for others to understand.
• Keep your tone neutral and avoid expressing personal opinions.
• Offer context that isn’t already included in the post, description, or title.
• Focus on addressing specific claims made in the post or title.

What happens after I submit my note?

Once submitted, your note will be reviewed and rated by other users. If it’s rated as helpful, it could be published and appear beneath the original post.

Not all notes will be published.

How to Ensure Your Notes are Helpful

Raters assess whether a note is helpful, including checking if it cites reliable sources and is clearly and neutrally written.

A note will only be shown under a post if it is regarded as helpful.

All notes must adhere to our Community Guidelines.

How to Delete Your Note on Redpanda

1. Click the overflow menu in the top-right of the post.
2. Select Delete Note.

Keep in mind

• You can’t delete a note once 15 minutes have passed since submission.
• Only notes that are still under review can be deleted.
